Off-spinner Shivam Sharma played a crucial role in Delhi’s big win over Railways in their final Ranji Trophy Group D match. He took five wickets as Delhi won by an innings and 19 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.
Although Delhi earned a bonus point with this victory, they could not qualify for the knockout stage. The match ended in just three days, with Railways struggling against Delhi’s strong bowling attack.
Railways Struggle in Second Innings
Delhi started the day at 334/7 and added a few more runs before being bowled out for 374 in 106.4 overs. Sumit Mathur, who played well, was dismissed for 86, while Siddhant Sharma made 6. Himanshu Sangwan took four wickets to end Delhi’s innings.
Railways faced difficulties right from the start of their second innings. They had to change their batting order as Anchit Yadav was unavailable due to an injury. Delhi took early wickets, with Siddhant Sharma removing Railways captain Suraj Ahuja. Shivam Sharma then dismissed Vivek Singh and Mohammad Saif.
The game saw a brief delay when some spectators entered the field to meet Virat Kohli, but Delhi’s bowlers remained focused. By lunch, Railways were struggling at 74/4. Ayan Chaudhari tried to fight back, but Delhi’s bowlers wrapped up the innings quickly. Shivam completed his five-wicket haul, and Ayush Badoni took the final wicket.
Delhi dominated the match and secured a strong win, thanks to Shivam’s superb bowling and contributions from other players like Ayush Badoni and Sumit Mathur.
