The Indian Digital Gaming Society (IDGS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, successfully concluded the GameForge Program, a pioneering skill-sync initiative aimed at equipping students with essential gaming and esports career skills. The three-day event, held across multiple institutions, marked a significant step in positioning India as a global leader in the gaming industry.
As reported by Exchange4media, the final GameForge event at Chitkara University witnessed an overwhelming response, with over 1,000 students participating alongside industry experts. A major panel discussion focused on the evolution of the AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality) sector and the role of government initiatives like WAVES in fostering innovation. The event facilitated discussions between academia and industry leaders, providing aspiring professionals with insights into the future of game development and related technological advancements.
WAVES Handheld Video Game Design Challenge – Encouraging Hardware Innovation
One of the standout features of the event series was the WAVES Handheld Video Game Design Challenge, which emphasised not only software development but also hardware innovation. Participants were required to develop games using microcontrollers, a step towards enhancing India’s gaming hardware capabilities. This initiative is expected to contribute to advancements in AI, VFX, and animation, thereby benefiting the entire AVGC sector.
GameForge at Chitkara International School
Held on January 30, the Chitkara International School event attracted over 500 students, providing an in-depth exploration of the fast-growing gaming and esports industry. Supported by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and IDGS, the event featured engaging sessions on Why Gaming is the Future and Sports vs. Esports.
A key discussion, chaired by Mediapreneur Mr. Indrajit Ghosh, featured industry veterans Mr. Saurabh Shah (KRAFTON India) and Mr. Sanand Salil Mitra (SporTech Innovation Lab), who delved into the integration of AR, VR, and gaming in education. The discussions highlighted the AVGC sector’s rapid growth and the essential skills required for success in these dynamic fields.
GameForge at NorthCap University, Gurugram
The GameForge event at NorthCap University (NCU), Gurugram, marked the beginning of the three-day initiative. Conducted in partnership with ICT Academy, the event focused on Bridging the Talent Gap, Gaming Beyond Entertainment, and Emerging Trends in Gaming and Esports. Mr. Ashutosh Mohle, Joint Director, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, underscored the significance of the WAVES initiative in shaping the future of India’s gaming ecosystem. Over 500 students participated in the event, which also featured the Innovate2Educate Device Design Challenge, encouraging students to develop innovative gaming solutions.

The GameForge initiative has successfully introduced over 1,500 students to cutting-edge advancements and career opportunities in the gaming sector. By encouraging industry-academia collaboration, the initiative is set to play a crucial role in bridging the talent gap and preparing the next generation of gaming professionals.
