Raghavendra Dwivedi, better known as Raghu, India’s throwdown specialist, faced an unexpected hurdle in Nagpur when he was stopped by local police from entering the team hotel.
Raghu, who has been a crucial part of India’s support staff since 2011, was mistaken for an intruder outside Radisson Blu Hotel on Monday. A video of the incident has since gone viral, showing two police officers blocking his entry.
Mistaken Identity Leads to Confusion
The incident occurred when Raghu, along with the Indian team, arrived at the hotel. Despite being a long-time member of the squad, the police officers on duty failed to recognize him and prevented him from entering.
It was only after photographers present at the scene intervened, shouting:
“Arey, coach hai woh. Team ke saath hai. Bus se utra hai.” (He’s a coach, part of the team. He just got off the bus.)
That the police allowed Raghu to proceed. Known for his calm demeanor, Raghu handled the situation gracefully and was later seen collecting his bags before entering the hotel.

Raghu – India’s Unsung Hero in Training
Raghu has been an integral part of Team India’s training setup for over a decade. Handpicked by Sachin Tendulkar in 2011, he has played a crucial role in helping Indian batters prepare for fast bowling.
His throwdowns, which can reach speeds of 150 kmph, allow batters like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill to simulate real match conditions against high-quality pace and spin bowling.
Meanwhile after beating England 4-1 in the five-match T20I series, India will now lock horns with The Three Lions in the ODI series, starting from February 6 at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur.
