Former South African fast bowler Allan Donald believes the SA20 league will grow significantly if Indian players are allowed to participate. The tournament, which is backed by the IPL franchises, will crown its third champion on Saturday when MI Cape Town faces defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the final.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has always maintained strict policies regarding Indian players’ participation in overseas leagues. However, a breakthrough was seen this season when veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik played for the Paarl Royals. His inclusion has sparked discussions on whether more Indian cricketers, including top stars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, could feature in SA20 in the future.

Speaking to IANS, Allan Donald expressed his excitement over the possibility. “BCCI is the strongest cricket board in the world. It would be great to see young and talented Indian players in SA20,” he said.

The legendary fast bowler also talked about the impact that players like Rohit Sharma could have on the league.

“If there are Indian cricketers keen to play in SA20, it would be amazing. This league would grow exponentially,” he added.

Donald also mentioned ongoing discussions about expanding the league, with rumors suggesting the addition of two new teams.

“I saw something about ‘Royal Challengers Bloemfontein’ on Instagram this morning. Who knows what could happen at the end of the year?”

The SA20 has rapidly grown into a popular T20 competition, with high-quality cricket and strong fan engagement. With IPL franchises owning all six teams, there is hope that the BCCI might consider allowing more Indian players to participate in the future. If that happens, it could take the league to another level.
