The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 has suffered an early setback as two senior Indian cricketers, Pooja Vastrakar (Mumbai Indians) and Asha Sobhana (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), have been ruled out due to injuries. Their respective franchises have named replacements ahead of the tournament.
Mumbai Indians Sign Parunika Sisodia
Pooja Vastrakar, Mumbai Indians’ pace bowler, has been out of action since October 2024 due to an ankle injury. As a replacement, MI has signed Parunika Sisodia, a young left-arm spinner who was part of India’s Under-19 T20 World Cup-winning team.
MI announced that Parunika joins the squad at her base price of ₹10 lakh. The young spinner impressed in the U-19 T20 World Cup, taking 3/21 against England in the semi-final and 2/6 against South Africa in the final. She was previously part of the Gujarat Giants in WPL 2023.
RCB Brings In Nuzhat Parween
Asha Sobhana, RCB’s leg-spinner, has also been ruled out due to a knee injury. She sustained it before India’s T20 World Cup 2024 clash against Australia and hasn’t played since.
RCB has named Nuzhat Parween, a wicketkeeper-batter from the Railways team, as her replacement. Parween has represented India in five T20Is and joins RCB for ₹30 lakh, her base price.
