New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025 due to a foot injury. He felt pain in his right foot after bowling in a warm-up match against Afghanistan on Sunday. Medical reports confirmed that he would not recover in time to play in the tournament.

Kyle Jamieson Replaces Ferguson

New Zealand has sent Ferguson home and called in fast bowler Kyle Jamieson as his replacement. Jamieson, who plays for Canterbury Kings, will soon travel to Pakistan to join the squad.

New Zealand’s head coach Gary Stead expressed disappointment over Ferguson’s injury.

“Lockie is a key part of our bowling attack. He has a lot of experience in big tournaments, and we know how much he wanted to play,” Stead said.

Jamieson returned to cricket in December 2024 after missing 10 months due to a back injury. Stead believes his height and extra bounce will be useful in Pakistan.

“Kyle brings pace and bounce, which will suit these conditions. Since his comeback, he has bowled with great energy,” Stead added.

New Zealand’s Injury Concerns

New Zealand is also missing fast bowler Ben Sears, who is out due to a hamstring injury.

Ferguson joins a growing list of injured fast bowlers missing the Champions Trophy 2025, including:

  • Jasprit Bumrah (India)
  • Anrich Nortje (South Africa)
  • Pat Cummins (Australia)
  • Josh Hazlewood (Australia)

With so many top pacers ruled out, the tournament will see teams relying on new faces to lead their bowling attacks.
