Mohammed Shami created history in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by becoming the first Indian fast bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the tournament’s history. He achieved this milestone in India’s match against Bangladesh, delivering a brilliant spell to dismantle the opposition’s batting lineup.
Mohammed Shami’s Five-Wicket Haul Wrecks Bangladesh
Bangladesh, batting first, struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Shami struck early, dismissing Soumya Sarkar for a duck in the first over. He then removed Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who edged one to Shubman Gill. Later, he returned to send Jaker Ali back after a well-made 68. Shami completed his five-wicket haul by cleaning up Tanzim Hasan Sakib and dismissing Taskin Ahmed, restricting Bangladesh to 228 runs in 49.4 overs.
His final figures read 10-0-53-5, making him the first Indian pacer to achieve this feat in the Champions Trophy.
Bangladesh’s Batting Struggles Despite Hridoy’s Century
Despite losing wickets early, Towhid Hridoy played a brilliant knock, scoring 100 off 118 balls with six fours and two sixes. He was well-supported by Jaker Ali, who made 68 off 114 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to contribute significantly.
Harshit Rana also bowled well, taking 3 wickets for 31 runs, while Axar Patel picked up 2 wickets for 43 runs.
This performance marks a strong comeback for Shami, who had been out of action due to an injury after the 2023 ODI World Cup. He made his return through domestic cricket and later played in the ODI series against England before making his presence felt in the ICC Champions Trophy.
With this spell, Shami has once again proved why he is one of India’s most reliable fast bowlers in white-ball cricket.
