The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest T20 tournament in the world, attracting top cricketers from different countries. Since its launch in 2008, the league has changed the way cricket is played and viewed. However, former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has now called for a boycott of IPL, urging cricket boards not to send their players.

Inzamam’s Statement on IPL Ban

Speaking on a Pakistan news channel show, ‘Champions Trophy Hungama,’ Inzamam said that every major cricketer participates in the IPL, but Indian players do not take part in overseas leagues. He suggested that cricket boards should stop sending their players to IPL unless Indian players are allowed in leagues like the Big Bash League (BBL) or The Hundred.

“Every top player from every country comes and plays in IPL. But no Indian player plays in any other league. Every board should stop sending their players for IPL from now on,” Inzamam said.

He further added that cricket boards should take a stand on this issue.

“Agar aap apne players ko release nahi karte kisi bhi league ke liye to dusre board ko bhi to stance lena chahiye na?” (If you don’t release your players for any other league, then other boards should also take a stance for their players.)

Longstanding Issue Between India and Pakistan

Inzamam’s remarks also highlight the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan. Pakistani players were part of the first IPL season in 2008 but have not been allowed to participate since 2009 due to political reasons. His comments come just before the start of IPL 2025, which is set to begin on March 22.

The opening match will be played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, while the final is scheduled for May 25.
