India secured an easy 44-run victory over New Zealand in a low-scoring contest, with spinners dominating on a slow, turning surface. Batting first, India posted 249 for 9 in 50 overs, with Shreyas Iyer top-scoring with 79 runs off 98 balls.
Hardik Pandya played a crucial 45-run knock, while Axar Patel chipped in with 42. Matt Henry led New Zealand’s bowling attack with a five-wicket haul, restricting India from crossing the 250-run mark.
Chasing 250, New Zealand struggled against India’s spin-heavy attack. Rachin Ravindra fell early, and though Kane Williamson anchored the innings with a patient 81 off 120 balls, he lacked support from the other end.
Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham failed to build partnerships, while Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell departed cheaply. Mitchell Santner’s late fireworks (28 off 31) were not enough as New Zealand was bowled out for 205 in 45.3 overs.
Varun Chakravarthy was the star performer for India, spinning a web around the Kiwi batters with his variations. The mystery spinner claimed five wickets for 42 runs in his 10-over spell, while Kuldeep Yadav picked up two scalps.
Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja also chipped in with crucial breakthroughs, ensuring India’s spinners dictated the game.
With this win, India once again proved their dominance on spin-friendly tracks, while New Zealand’s struggles against quality spin bowling continued.
