Kerala Influencers Blocked for Promoting Betting Apps: What You Need to Know

Kerala Police have taken action against social media influencers promoting betting and gaming apps, leading to the blocking of several Instagram accounts. Among those affected are Malayali vloggers Mallu Family Sujin, Wayanadan Vlogger, and Fazmina Zakiir, whose accounts were recently disabled by Meta.

As reported by Timeline Daily, this move follows an investigation initiated by complaints from Advocate Jiyas Jamal, which led to the closure of multiple social media accounts linked to the promotion of these betting platforms. The action is part of an effort to address the promotion of online gambling, which has increasingly targeted young audiences on social media.

Crackdown on Social Media Influencers Promoting Online Betting

The Kerala Police’s decision aligns with the government’s initiative to address the endorsement of gambling apps such as the Raj Game app. Influencers in question had been promoting these applications, often posting videos claiming to have earned profits from participating in online betting, potentially misleading their followers.

The Cyber Police had previously registered a case based on Jiyas Jamal’s complaint, highlighting the promotion of these betting apps. Following investigations, authorities moved to disable Instagram accounts associated with such promotions.

Among the blocked accounts is that of Mallu Family Sujin, a content creator with a large following for his family-centric videos. Fazmina Zakiir, another influencer promoting these betting apps, and Wayanadan Vlogger, also found promoting similar content, have had their accounts taken down.

Similar actions have been taken in other cases. Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate investigated other betting applications, including Mahadev and Fivem apps, which were linked to financial irregularities. Investigations revealed that funds generated through these apps were sometimes transferred to cryptocurrency accounts, raising concerns about financial practices.

The issue of online gambling promotions is not limited to Kerala. In a similar instance, social media influencer Vasupalli Nani, also known as Local Boy Nani, faced legal consequences for promoting betting platforms such as DAFABET, PARIMATCH, and MAHADEV BOOK. His involvement led to an investigation by the Visakhapatnam Cybercrime Police, following reports of a victim experiencing financial losses. Nani was subsequently arrested and sent to judicial remand.

Authorities across the country are monitoring the use of social media platforms for the promotion of gambling and investment schemes. Law enforcement agencies have urged influencers to refrain from endorsing unverified financial platforms, warning that such promotions can lead to financial losses for users.

The Kerala Police’s recent action serves as a reminder to influencers about the implications of promoting betting platforms, reinforcing the government’s stance on online financial practices and public awareness.
