Times Internet-owned popular cricket news platform Cricbuzz has recently launched a fantasy gaming platform Cricbuzz11.
The launch comes ahead of busy cricketing season with the ongoing Champions Trophy and Women’s Premier League (WPL) and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Dream11 – Cricbuzz11 relation
As per the terms of service on the platform, the fantasy platform is offered by DP Platform Private Limited (“DP”) which has the same address as that of the India’s unicorn fantasy gaming portal Dream11.
The company master data of DP accessed through Ministry of Corporate Affairs states the company was incorporated in 2024 and the contact email provided is cs.consultantvmk@dream11.com indicating Cricbuzz11 is operated by India’s fantasy gaming unicorn.
However, no specific announcement was made by both the entities although Cricbuzz11 now prominently features on Cricbuzz. It appears Dream11 kept the operations of Cricbuzz11 separate from its flagship offerings by housing it under a separate corporate entity.
This will be a first such pact between a leading cricketing portal and fantasy gaming leader, although advertising deals are quite common in this sector.
As to the overall money gaming industry, the Supreme Court has earlier this year granted a temporary stay on the GST show-cause notices issued to several online gaming companies, including Dream11. The Apex Court has scheduled a final hearing for March 18, 2025, to address the pleas of gaming companies on the retrospective application of the 28% GST on the full value of bets.
