A case of financial distress linked to online gambling has led to a family loss in Tamil Nadu. The body of a missing private bank branch manager, Premraj, was recovered from a railway track at Pasupathipalayam in Karur district on Wednesday, a day after his wife and two children were found dead in their home in Namakkal town.

According to police sources, Premraj, a resident of Pari Nagar in Namakkal, had incurred a loss of Rs 50 lakh due to online gambling. Investigators suspect that the financial burden led him to take this step.

As reported by Times of India, on Tuesday, Namakkal police were alerted by neighbours about an incident at Premraj’s residence. Upon reaching the house, officers discovered the bodies of his wife, P. Mohanapriya (35), their daughter, Prinithi Raj (6), and son, Prenith Raj (2). With Premraj missing at the time, authorities launched a search.

A letter recovered from the residence indicated Premraj’s online gambling losses. Attempts to contact him were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was switched off. While investigators have yet to determine whether Mohanapriya and the children died by suicide or were killed, the case has raised concerns over the impact of online gaming.

On Wednesday, Karur police informed their Namakkal counterparts about the recovery of a man’s body on the railway tracks at Pasupathipalayam. Upon verification, the body was identified as Premraj’s by his relatives and the police. Initial findings indicate that he ended his life by jumping in front of a train in the early hours of Wednesday.

The case has brought attention to the effects of online gambling, particularly financial losses incurred through digital betting platforms. Authorities may review regulations surrounding online gambling to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the deaths of Premraj’s wife and children. Further updates are awaited as forensic reports and additional evidence come to light.
