Gujarat Giants secured a crucial five-wicket win over Delhi Capitals Women to strengthen their chances of making the playoffs in the Women’s Premier League 2025.
Batting first, Delhi Capitals posted 177/5 in 20 overs, led by a brilliant 92 off 57 balls from captain Meg Lanning. Shafali Verma provided early momentum with a 27-ball 40, but Gujarat’s bowlers, especially Meghna Singh (3/35) and Deandra Dottin (2/37), kept the scoring in check towards the end.
Chasing 178, Gujarat lost an early wicket but found stability through Beth Mooney (44 off 35) and Harleen Deol, who played a match-winning knock of 70* off 49 balls.
Ashleigh Gardner (22 off 13) and Deandra Dottin (24 off 10) provided crucial cameos, while Kashvee Gautam sealed the victory with a six in the final over. Delhi’s bowlers struggled, with Jess Jonassen (2/38) and Shikha Pandey (2/31) being the only successful ones.
With this win, Gujarat Giants moved closer to playoff qualification, while Delhi Capitals will have to regroup after failing to defend a strong total. Lanning’s knock was a standout performance, but Gujarat’s aggressive approach in the chase made the difference.
