Champions Trophy 2025 – Shreyas Steps Up

Shreyas Iyer played an important role in India’s Champions Trophy win. He scored 243 runs in five matches, with his best knock being 79 runs against New Zealand in the group stage. In the final against the same team, he held the innings together after the quick dismissals of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma.

Shreyas admitted that the last few months have been very fulfilling for him. He worked hard on his game, reassessed his mistakes, and focused on fitness and training. His efforts finally paid off as he got consistent opportunities in domestic cricket and proved his worth.

KKR’s IPL 2024 Title and His Exit

Despite leading KKR to their third IPL title in 2024, Shreyas Iyer was not retained by the franchise. Many fans credited Gautam Gambhir, the team’s mentor, for the victory, which may have overshadowed Iyer’s leadership.

However, Punjab Kings saw his potential and bought him for ₹26.75 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He will now captain the team and aim to prove his value once again.

Shreyas Iyer on Not Getting Enough Recognition

Shreyas Iyer believes that his efforts often go unnoticed. He said that he wanted respect for the work he put in on the field. However, he does not complain and continues to focus on doing the right things.

He also mentioned that he was not frustrated despite losing his BCCI contract because he was still playing in the IPL. His main focus was to win the tournament, which he successfully did with KKR.

Now, with a new journey at Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer will look to make an impact and silence his critics with his performances.
