Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are facing injury concerns ahead of the IPL 2025 season. Their first match is just a few days away, but the team is still waiting for some of its key fast bowlers to be fully fit.
Injury Concerns in LSG Camp
Fast bowlers Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, and Mayank Yadav are struggling with fitness issues. Mohsin has joined the team, but the others are yet to arrive. Mayank, who was retained by LSG, is recovering at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. He has started bowling but is not yet at full pace.
Akash Deep, who suffered a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, is also undergoing rehab in Bengaluru. He is unlikely to recover in time and could miss the first few matches. Avesh, on the other hand, has regained fitness but has not joined the squad yet.
Backup Options for LSG
LSG have some tough decisions to make before the season starts. Mohsin suffered a calf injury while bowling recently, adding to the team’s concerns. The management is closely monitoring the situation under head coach Zaheer Khan.
Two backup fast bowlers, Shardul Thakur and Shivam Mavi, are already with the team. Both players remained unsold in the mega auction but could now get contracts due to the injury crisis. They have been active in practice sessions and match simulations.
LSG’s Pace Attack Strategy
LSG focused on Indian pacers in the auction, with Shamar Joseph as the only overseas fast bowler. Mitchell Marsh, who was another possible seam-bowling option, is unlikely to bowl in the tournament. This has put LSG in a difficult position, as they need to finalize their pace attack soon.
Zaheer Khan and the coaching staff have been closely assessing Thakur and Mavi. Both have played a lot of domestic cricket and have experience in the IPL. Thakur can also contribute with the bat, while Mavi is known for his powerful hitting lower down the order.
Big Decision Ahead
LSG must now decide whether to continue with their injured pacers or offer contracts to Thakur and Mavi. With the season about to begin, the team cannot afford to make the wrong choice. A final decision is expected soon.
