A Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) operation of the Ahmedabad city police has reportedly unearthed the largest betting operation (Mahadev Book) being carried out in the state with transactions totaling Rs 5000 crore.
A recent raid in Madhavpura uncovered one of Mahadev Book’s branches in the city which was being run from the offices of a certain Mahaveer Enterprises. During the raid, the police found that Harshit Jain, the owner of the firm, was serving as an agent for Mahadev Book. According to a report by Gujarat Samachar, Jain has carried out transactions worth more than Rs 5000 crore relating to Mahadev Book.
Saurabh Chandrakar is the mastermind of Mahadev Book betting app, which is headquartered in Dubai. He has 200 cases filed against him so far. However, the authorities have not been able to locate him yet.
The investigation has revealed that about a decade ago, Saurabh Chandrakar, a native of Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, had been operating a juice shop. Later, he established a betting network locally with around 10 other people. One of them was Ravi Uppal, who is considered to be a crucial member of the team and still working with Chandrakar.
After the police began taking action against the betting syndicate, Chandrakar, along with his key personnel, fled to Dubai. It has been reported that he founded Mahadev Book there while working for the bookies of Motagaja, and from 2018 he has amassed crores of rupees in his illegal business.
A number of operations have been conducted by police in many states against individuals carrying out illegal betting with the Mahadev Book betting app. The police have arrested dozens of individuals in multiple raids including the ones who were found to be using fraud bank accounts to siphon money off to Dubai
Earlier this week, the Chhattisgarh police have arrested several operators of the illegal betting network in India. The culprits were trained in Dubai and sent to India as agents to recruit other people and operate branches of Mahadev Book.
Meanwhile, an SIT has been formed by the Ahmedabad police, and the investigation has begun in the matter.
