The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revamped its coaching staff ahead of the much-anticipated upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The Board has secured the expertise of two highly regarded figures in the cricketing world Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie.

Gary Kirsten Takes the Helm for White-Ball Cricket

The marquee appointment is Gary Kirsten, the mastermind behind India’s 2011 ODI World Cup victory. Kirsten will take charge as the head coach for Pakistan’s white-ball teams, encompassing both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

He is expected to join the squad on May 22nd in England, just ahead of the four-match T20I series. This marks Kirsten’s return to the national coaching scene after a successful stint with the South African team from 2011 to 2013. Currently, he also lends his experience as a mentor to the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Gujarat Titans (GT).

Jason Gillespie to Lead the Test Charge

Former Australian pace bowler Jason Gillespie joins the team as the head coach for the Pakistan Test team. Gillespie brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from the domestic circuit and the Big Bash League in Australia.

PCB Chairman Expresses Optimism

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who announced the appointments at a press conference in Lahore, expressed his confidence that the new coaching staff will bring positive results.

“Their stellar track records precede them, and I warmly welcome them to the Pakistan cricket family,” Naqvi said of Kirsten and Gillespie.

“I have every confidence that their expertise will guide our players to reach new heights, aligning with their inherent talent and the expectations of our passionate fans. These high-quality appointments also present a remarkable opportunity for our players to glean insights from these seasoned professionals, refining their skills and fortifying their cricketing acumen.”
