Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh lashed out at MS Dhoni, the former CSK captain, for his decision to bat at number nine in the recent IPL 2024 match versus Punjab Kings in Dharamsala.

Harbhajan Singh argues that having MS Dhoni bat at number nine doesn’t add value to the team, so it’s better to drop him and include a pure bowler in the team in his place.

Notably, MS Dhoni was dismissed for a golden duck by Harshal Patel. Only twice this season has MS Dhoni been dismissed, and both times it was against Punjab Kings.

Here’s what Harbhajan Singh said during commentary:

“If Dhoni is coming to bat at number 9, then it’s better to go with a pure bowler. If you know you can’t bat up the order, then leave the team. No need to force yourself unnecessarily.”

MS Dhoni has amassed 110 runs from nine matches at a staggering strike rate of 224. Throughout this season, he has consistently provided the finishing touch for CSK whenever they batted.

This might be MS Dhoni’s final season with Chennai Super Kings. Before IPL 2024, he voluntarily stepped down from the captaincy, appointing Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain, indicating he won’t be part of the team in the next season.
