‘Shameless' - Mohammed Shami Slams Sanjiv Goenka for Publicly Humiliating KL Rahul

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has slammed Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka for publicly criticizing LSG captain KL Rahul after the team’s embarrassing defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.

Lucknow Super Giants had a bad day with the bat, managing only 165 runs for the loss of four wickets in the first innings. Sunrisers Hyderabad chased it down in just 9.4 overs without losing any wickets.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma took the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers to the cleaners, leaving LSG looking very clueless in the second innings. Sanjiv Goenka, who was present in the stands, openly criticized KL Rahul after the game.

Sanjiv Goenka did not even bother about the cameras and other players around him and had an animated conversation with KL Rahul. The video of the exchange went viral on social media, sparking controversy with fans and experts slamming Sanjiv Goenka for his behaviour.

Mohammed Shami joined those criticizing Goenka, stating that if he wanted to have a conversation with KL Rahul, it should have been done behind closed doors in the dressing room, rather than in front of the cameras.

Here is what Mohammed Shami told Cricbuzz:

“You can’t insult KL Rahul publicly. He is one of the star Indian players and no ordinary cricketer. There is a way to say things. If you wanted to talk to KL Rahul, you could have done it in the dressing room or at the hotel.”

“I would call his behaviour shameless. Cricket is a team game, and you can’t blame one player. There are good days and there are bad days.”

There have been reports that Sanjiv Goenka-led LSG is unlikely to retain KL Rahul for the next IPL season. Furthermore, there have also been reports that he is likely to step down from the captaincy for the remaining two matches of the team, which are must-wins for them to qualify for the playoffs.
