The 33rd Match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will witness Hosts Punjab Kings against Mumbai Indians. The match is scheduled for 18th April at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.

Talking about the hosts, Punjab Kings have struggled to be consistent in their batting performances, particularly in the top order, where Jonny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh have scored few runs. However, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma have made significant contributions in the latter stages of the innings, assuring strong finishes for the team. 

 In the absence of their Captain Shikhar Dhawan, Sam Curran led the side he along with Arshdeep Singh, and Harshal Patel have been dependable bowlers, while players like Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar have provided little support. The loss of skipper Shikhar Dhawan owing to a shoulder injury would have a huge impact on the team’s batting lineup.

Mumbai Indians on the other hand saw Rohit Sharma, their former captain, hitting a stunning 105*(63) in their most recent encounter, his second IPL ton of the season. Unfortunately, his brilliance had little backing from the other batters, and his great performance did not result in victory. On the bowling front, Jasprit had an economical stint but he, too, lacked the help of his teammates which is becoming an evident pattern now. MI will be hoping for a better-balanced performance from their batsmen and bowlers in this key match.

Hardik Pandya will lead 8th placed Mumbai Indians while Curran will lead 7th placed PBKS. 

Mullanpur Stadium Analysis 

The surface at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur is considered to be excellent for both batsmen and bowlers, with high-scoring games the norm. Interestingly, fast bowlers have been more successful than spinners on this surface, taking twice as many wickets.

Rohit Sharma is in the best form of his IPL journey considering his last years which had a horrible patch. Having scored 261 runs with a century in the last game Rohit would be hoping to continue the fine touch.

Sam Curran has been performing decently for Punjab Kings but in the absence of the regular skipper, he would have to punch above his weight. He loves to play against MI as history suggests and he would be eyeing to secure a win under his belt as a skipper 

Surkyakumar Yadav 

Suryakumar Yadav has seen best of the both worlds, he has played a match-winning knock, and a smashing half-century in one game while the other two games he played saw him scoring a duck. SKY would try to live up to his reputation and continue scoring consistently. 

Rohit Sharma and Surya Kumar Yadav are good picks for captaincy and vice-captaincy considering both will be able to attack PBKS bowlers.
