Pakistan suffered a close defeat by four runs against New Zealand’s reserve team on Thursday, April 25, at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. With this loss, New Zealand now leads the five-match series 2-1.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s interim coach, Azhar Mahmood, said something strange after the loss. He claimed Pakistan hit more boundaries and bowled more dot balls, but because New Zealand scored more doubles, they won.

Here’s what Azhar Mahmood said after Pakistan’s loss:

“We managed to outscore New Zealand in the boundary count, which is a positive for us. Additionally, our bowlers delivered more dots. However, New Zealand capitalized on doubles more effectively. These aspects highlight areas for improvement.”

Azhar Mahmood also mentioned that he’s not fazed by losing the series, as his main focus is on developing young talent and giving them opportunities, with an eye on the T20 World Cup 2024.

“I’m not concerned about losing this series. There’s still an opportunity to level it, our focus isn’t only on that. We’re keeping our sights set on the future. Incorporating young talent and providing them with opportunities. Everything is progressing as planned,” he concluded.
