Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting addressed the media ahead of their upcoming IPL 2024 clash against Rajasthan Royals, providing updates on the fitness of Ishant Sharma and David Warner.

Ishant Sharma, who has been battling an injury, has trained for the past three days and is now fit for selection, according to Ponting. While he might not bowl today, the fast bowler has impressed the team with his recent progress.

David Warner, on the other hand, is still recovering from an injury but has shown significant improvement. He batted in the nets yesterday and will undergo a final fitness test today to determine his availability for the match.

Here’s what Ricky Ponting said in the press-conference:

“They both trained yesterday. In fact, Ishant trained three of the last five days. He probably won’t bowl today. We’re pretty happy with what we’ve seen from him over the last couple of days with his bowling. As of now, he’s fit for selection.”

“David Warner had a few days off. He also did some batting yesterday in the nets for about 20 minutes. He’ll go through his final paces today. He’s still yet to be past fit, but from what I saw yesterday, he’s a whole lot better than he was a few days ago,” he added.

Looking ahead to the crucial game against Rajasthan Royals, Ponting expressed confidence in his team’s ability to bounce back from their recent defeat against KKR. He emphasised that playing their best cricket is key to success, regardless of the opponent or venue.

The match between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals will be played on a wicket at Arun Jaitley Stadium that has already been used, potentially offering slightly slower conditions and potentially favouring the spinners.
