The ex-Kolkata Knight Riders captain, now serving as the team’s mentor, spoke highly of Shah Rukh Khan, the co-owner, lauding him for consistently allowing him the freedom to make team decisions.

Gautam Gambhir also revealed that Shah Rukh Khan never meddled with the team affairs, always trusted him, and backed his decisions. Here’s what he told Sportskeeda:

“Shah Rukh Khan is the best owner I’ve ever worked with. He never interferes in cricketing matters in the KKR team. He trusts me and backs my decisions.”

Gautam Gambhir’s statements came after the tense exchange between Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka and KL Rahul, following LSG’s heavy 10-wickets defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Gautam Gambhir further added that in India, criticism often comes too quickly from experts and owners based on just one match. He emphasized that criticism should only come from those who have experienced the pressure themselves.

“Especially in India sometimes as experts, as owners we start criticising in just one minute and basis of one match. Criticism should be done when you are in that position & know that pressure. Shah Rukh Khan knows these things, he knows that struggle & pressure,” Gambhir added.

Gautam Gambhir served as the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants for two consecutive years before leaving the franchise and joining the Kolkata Knight Riders in the same role. Under his guidance, the KKR are currently at the top of the points table in the IPL 2024.
