Shahid Afridi, the ex-Pakistani cricketer, proposed that cricket could ease tensions between India and Pakistan. He urged Team India to reciprocate Pakistan’s visit during the 2023 ODI World Cup by travelling to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Shahid Afridi mentioned that despite having security issues and getting threats from India, the Pakistani team, captained by Babar Azam, went to India for the World Cup after receiving guarantees of security.

“Pakistan and India must normalise cricket relations with eachother. Pakistan toured India in the past despite reservations. There is no way to improve relations between Indo-Pak other then cricket diplomacy,” Shahid Afridi said in the press-conference.

However, at present, it seems improbable that Team India will travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The alternative is that the tournament will adopt a hybrid format, with India’s matches moved to a different nation.
