Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) outfoxed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) twice in a four-day span, securing a six-wickets win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, April 23.

Putting to bat first, Chennai Super Kings, set a total of 210 runs for the loss of four wickets, with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad smashing an unbeaten century and Shivam Dube adding a crucial half-century.

In reply, Lucknow Super Giants capitalized on Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten, record-breaking century to successfully chase down the target with three deliveries remaining.

The Australian all-rounder notched the highest ever individual score in an IPL run chase, scoring 124 runs off just 63 balls. His knock was braced with 13 boundaries and six sixes. It was his maiden IPL century.

Meanwhile, during the commentary, former CSK batter Ambati Rayudu criticized Ruturaj Gaikwad for his poor field placement in the game. However, Navjot Singh Sidhu, commenting alongside him, quickly responded, saying that if MS Dhoni gets credit for wins, he should also bear responsibility for losses.

Ruturaj Gaikwad took over the charge of CSK one day ahead of IPL 2024 as MS Dhoni stepped down from the captaincy. While Ruturaj Gaikwad has been the captain on paper, it has been Dhoni who has been making the calls on the field.

Chennai Super Kings now have four wins from eight games. They are now sitting at the fifth position of the leaderboard with 8 points in their account. They are set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next game on April 28 at Chepauk.
