When Shubman Gill Threatened Shaheen Afridi in Response to Sledging

Ex-Pakistan Under-19 captain Rohail Nazir revealed an incident from the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, where young Shubman Gill had a heated exchange with Shaheen Shah Afridi.

In the semi-finals of the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, India, captained by Prithvi Shaw, batted first against Pakistan, led by Rohail Nazir. Notably, Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s current strike bowler, was part of that U19 team.

Things got intense between them, as Rohil Nazir spilled the beans in a podcast, saying Shaheen Afridi tried to rattle Gill with bouncers and some serious sledging.

While Nazir was behind the stumps, he overheard Afridi warning Gill about Pakistan’s deadly pacers compared to Bangladesh’s bowling.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill fired back, saying he should be just as scared since Indian batters are just as destructive, unlike Bangladesh.

Gill was not a bit affected by the sledging and went on to score an unbeaten century to lead India to a total of 272 runs in the first innings. Meanwhile, Pakistan faltered under pressure, with Ishan Porel taking four wickets to bowl them out for just 69 runs.

As a result, India progressed to the finals of the U19 World Cup 2018, where they thrashed Australia to lift the trophy.
