Sikandar Raza

Sikandar Raza, the swashbuckling all-rounder, has left the Punjab Kings franchise in the IPL 2024 to rejoin the Zimbabwe national team.

Raza, a vital cog in Zimbabwe’s batting and bowling lineup, will lead his side in a five-match T20I series against Bangladesh starting on May 3rd.

Taking to Twitter, Raza expressed his gratitude towards the IPL and Punjab Kings: “Thank you India, @IPL and @PunjabKingsIPL for having me, loved every minute of it. Time for national duty now.”

Raza did not get many opportunities with Punjab Kings this year. He managed just two appearances, scoring 43 runs. The previous season saw him featuring in seven games, scoring 139 runs with a half-century and taking three wickets.

Punjab Kings Scripts History

Sikandar Raza’s departure comes at a high point for Punjab Kings, who recently ended their four-match losing streak in spectacular fashion. Chasing a mammoth 262 set by Kolkata Knight Riders, the Kings chased down the target in a mere 18.4 overs, losing only two wickets.

Jonny Bairstow spearheaded the chase with an unbeaten century, while Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh contributed crucial fifties.

While Raza may be a loss for the Kings, his leadership will be crucial for Zimbabwe as they take on Bangladesh in the upcoming T20I series.
