The Indian cricket team captain, Rohit Sharma, has revealed that he has not yet met with the chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, regarding the T20 World Cup 2024. Additionally, no decision has been made regarding him and Virat Kohli opening the innings for Team India.

Notably, last week, there were reports that Rohit Sharma had a meeting with Ajit Agarkar and the selection committee, during which it was decided that Virat Kohli would open the innings for Team India alongside Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup 2024, along with other major decisions.

‘We Haven’t Decided Who’ll Open’ – Rohit Sharma

However, Rohit Sharma has now dispelled those rumours, stating that no such meeting has taken place, and no decision has been made regarding who will open for Team India in the prestigious tournament, set to be co-hosted by the USA and West Indies in June.

The 36-year-old Mumbaikar further added that unless the media hears directly from Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector, or Rahul David, the head coach of Team India, everything else should be considered fake.

Here is what Rohit Sharma said in a podcast with Adam Gilchrist in Club Prairie Fire:

“We haven’t met so far, we haven’t decided who’ll open at the World Cup (on him and Kohli opening). In today’s age, until and unless you don’t hear from me, Rahul bhai or Ajit bhai, everything else is fake.”

This statement by Rohit Sharma has sparked curiosity among fans. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was in great form before IPL 2024, has struggled in the cash-rich league so far.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli is currently the highest run-scorer of the tournament. It will be interesting to see if he will secure the opening slot for Team India in the biennial tournament.
